Wood I introduces students to the fundamentals of woodworking, including the properties of wood, safe tool use, and essential measurement and layout techniques. Students practice sanding, cutting, joining, and finishing methods under the guidance of an instructor, gradually progressing toward independent work. Instruction includes the use of hand tools, introductory power tools, and techniques such as carving and chiseling. Students complete a culminating project that requires planning, design, cost calculation, and attention to craftsmanship.
