Shops: Metal and Wood

In this shops community work, students work closely with instructors in the craft of metal and woodworking. In metal shop, students explore the basics of working with metal in a safe and organized environment. They learn how to measure and design simple projects while discovering different types of metals and their uses. Metal shop emphasizes personal growth through hands-on activities like welding, cutting, forging, casting, fabricating, and shaping metal. Students also have the opportunity to create their own metal projects, all the while developing skills and confidence in a supportive setting. This class is perfect for encouraging curiosity, honing fine motor skills, and sustaining individual development through practical experience.

In woodshop, students develop basic knowledge of wood materials, products for construction, framing, and safety as well as practice techniques for measuring, layout, and the use of hand tools. Before demonstrating competence with woodworking tools, techniques, and designs, students review and implement necessary safety procedures and shop etiquette. Students then observe and safely exercise appropriate systems for marking, cutting, and measuring wood.
