Spanish (Year 2)

Decorative Middle School Orange Post Thumbnail

Eighth grade Spanish emphasizes listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while learning more advanced grammar skills. Students also continue to study the Spanish-speaking world, including culture and geography. Their grammar includes both stem-changing and irregular verbs, the use of SER and ESTAR to describe feelings, characteristics, and conditions. The second semester for eighth grade is an exciting time because mastery of basic Spanish occurs. This semester includes the preterite tense in AR, ER, and IR verbs. Students learn to talk about events in the past. They also become comfortable discussing past vacations, previous years in school, etc. Direct object pronouns are introduced as well. Students continue with vocabulary acquisition and spend time creating a Travel Poster for a Spanish speaking country. Students also complete a multi-paragraph composition and a verbal presentation component for this project.
