Wisdom Literature/Prophets

This Sacred Scripture course offers a brief survey of the Wisdom Literature and a primary study of the Old Testament Prophets, emphasizing their call to covenant faithfulness, repentance, and hope. Students read selections from the Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, Wisdom, and the Song of Songs, considering how divine wisdom shapes moral and spiritual life, before turning primarily to key passages from the Major and Minor Prophets. Through close reading of Scripture, Socratic discussions, written and oral reflections, and connections to theology and the broader biblical narrative, students deepen their understanding of the wisdom and prophetic traditions. In studying the prophets, students encounter men called to speak God’s truth to His people, often challenging them to turn from false paths, renew their covenant with God, and remain faithful to His purposes.
