Music Theory

This music theory course gives the students an overview of rhythm, pitch, scales, harmony, and instruments and voices. In rhythm, students will identify and apply knowledge of notes and rests, time signatures, and syncopation. In pitch, students will identify and apply knowledge of the stave, treble and base clefs, leger lines, flats and sharps, and intervals in major scales. In scales, students will identify and apply knowledge of tones and semitones, major and minor scales, key signatures, major and minor keys, and pentatonic scales. In harmony, students will identify and apply knowledge of chords and triads as well as cadences. In instruments and voices, students will identify and apply knowledge of the instruments of the orchestra: woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, and keyboard; students will also identify and apply knowledge of vocal ensembles.
