In this Latin IV course, students continue their advanced Latin studies through the Cambridge Latin series, translating a series of texts set in the court of Emperor Domitian. The course emphasizes reading comprehension in Latin, with new vocabulary and grammar introduced within the texts. Students then move to the translation and analysis of primary texts from Roman authors including Virgil, Catullus, Ovid, and Livy. Through these readings, students deepen their understanding of Latin language and grammar while studying the literary genres of epic and lyric poetry and historiography and encountering the history, culture, and ideas of the Roman world.
