Latin III

In this Latin III course, students continue their Latin studies through the Cambridge Latin series, reading a series of stories set in Roman Bath, Britain, and Rome. The course emphasizes continued development of reading comprehension and translation skills, with grammar focused on mastery of the participle and ablative absolute and an introduction to the subjunctive in constructions such as temporal clauses and indirect commands. Students also study gerunds and gerundives while expanding their vocabulary through stories that explore aspects of Roman society, including the Roman army, the cursus honorum, and the patronage system. Through these readings, students deepen their understanding of Latin language and grammar while continuing to encounter the history, culture, and ideas of the Roman world.
