Latin II

In this Latin II course, students continue their study of the Cambridge Latin series, building upon the vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills developed in Latin I. The course emphasizes reading comprehension and translation, with students working to master four verb tenses: perfect, imperfect, present, and future. Students continue to develop their understanding and use of the nominative, dative, and accusative cases for nouns, pronouns, and adjectives while mastering the genitive and ablative cases. As their knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary expands, students translate longer passages with increasingly complex sentence structures and develop greater accuracy, fluency, and independence in reading Latin. Through the stories and historical settings of the Cambridge Latin series, students continue to encounter the language, culture, history, and ideas of the Classical world. Students also have opportunities to supplement their studies with Latin novellas and other readings appropriate to their developing skills, strengthening comprehension while increasing their familiarity with Latin language and literature.
