Introduction to Chemistry
The Introduction to Chemistry class gives an overview of basic concepts in chemistry ranging from matter, states of matter, atomic structure, elements, the periodic table, covalent bonding, ionic bonding, molecular structure, chemical reactions, and balancing chemical equations. Through a combination of independent readings, in-class discussions, lab work, and in-class working sessions, students develop an understanding of the framework of chemistry. Each student prepares a presentation board including a Bohr diagram of an element of their choice and a description of that element’s properties and uses as well as another presentation of an aspect of chemistry of interest to that student.
