The science of goats course focuses on the goat kidding process. Students learn how to manage goats in the late stage of pregnancy, labor and delivery, as well as caring for newborn kids. Students also study mammal reproduction, nutrition, and general overall goat health care. They examine the basic goat anatomy and physiology, as well as taking part in the routine management of this livestock. Lessons are based on both classroom study and field experience. Their final projects give an opportunity to go more in-depth into individual topics of interest. Students then present these final projects to the larger school community at the conclusion of the cycle.
