Euclidean Geometry
This year-long course is centered on the classic text Euclid’s Elements and is supplemented by an instructor-designed workbook. The course begins with a review of fundamental algebraic calculations used to find perimeter, area, and volume. Students learn to describe geometric concepts using precise terminology and apply this vocabulary to formulate logical arguments. They then prove conjectures in an organized, interconnected manner, closely following Euclid’s original approach. Strong emphasis is placed on the logical accuracy of each step in a proof. The course also introduces ruler-and-compass constructions and briefly explores coordinate geometry, higher-dimensional results, and non-Euclidean geometry.
