Our high school calculus course covers the fundamentals of single-variable calculus, as well as the history of the development of calculus and its applications. Students work individually and have daily homework. Lessons, discussions, readings, and videos are used to supplement explanations from the textbook. While our course follows the conventional structure of calculus courses – a review of pre-calculus algebra and trigonometry, then limits, differentiation, applications of derivatives, integration, and finally, applications of integration – we emphasize from the start the overall purpose of calculus, the role of each type of calculation in this purpose, and how these methods connect to each other. Finally, the course includes at least three cumulative assessments given at intervals throughout the year.
