Algebra
Mathematics in the Adolescent Program is focused on individual mastery. Meeting in small, mixed-ability classes, students are free to push themselves to learn as much as possible. Students in this course learn algebraic concepts from evaluating expressions through quadratic equations and parabolas according to their work plan. Lessons are given to either small groups or individual students and follow-up work is done out of a textbook. Assistance is provided on a one-on-one basis. Special emphasis is put on conceptual understanding, learning strategies for solving problems, showing one’s work, and maintaining neatness throughout. When a student is ready to pass into the next section of work, an assessment is generated by the teacher. Student goals are frequently reassessed to ensure that work is being completed at an efficient and challenging pace.
