Advanced Integrated Science is an extended primer for a successful start to college study in any of the pure sciences. Students are expected to have completed a year-long course in each of the sciences before enrolling in this senior-level course. The course is divided into trimesters: Trimester One is 12 weeks long and covers eight physics units which provide an algebra-based approach to college Physics I, Physics II, and an introduction to modern physics. Trimester Two is 12 weeks long and integrates concepts from anatomy, molecular biology, and physiology into eight units that explore the structure and function of the body at both the macroscopic and microscopic scales. Trimester Three is nine weeks long and is an introduction to organic chemistry.
Students gain experience and training in independent scientific inquiry through a yearly Independent Research Project– project creation and proposal, literature review, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results – with the mentorship of faculty and other experts.
